Rotschreck is the primal survival instinct that overtakes those Kindred faced with fire, sunlight, a person bearing True Faith, or certain personal problems. A vampire faced with one of these obstacles must make a static Courage challenge to avoid entering Rotschreck. If the test is failed, then the vampire is overcome with terror. For a duration equal to the restraints on Frenzy, they will do whatever is necessary to avoid the source of their fear. This usually means they run away as fast as possible. If necessary they will even attack the source of Rotschreck or anyone else who is unlucky enough to be in their way. However, self-preservation is the name of the game here. Even in Rotschreck, a vampire will not blindly flee if it, too, is dangerous. Vampires who cannot fight or run away from the root of their fear will simply cower in the fetal position, unable to act.
Kindred society frowns greatly upon cowardice. The Sabbat will execute a vampire who flees, no questions asked. In the Camarilla, they are more lenient, but it is a very easy way to lose Status.
